Navigating Digital Storage: What Storing Links and Excerpts Really Means

Advantages and importance of storing web links and excerpts for future reference, research, sharing, learning, work efficiency, and offline access.

When you store a link or an excerpt from a website, it essentially saves that specific information for you to return to later. This can be useful if you would like to reference the information, share it with someone, or keep it for personal use.

Storing multiple links and excerpts works similarly. Each individual link or excerpt is saved separately, allowing you to keep track of various pieces of information across different websites or pages.

Regardless, the main purpose of storing these is to retain the information for future use without having to navigate back to the original webpage each time and here are some advantages:

1. Future Reference: You may come across important information or interesting content that you want to refer to later. Storing links or excerpts allows you to easily find this information.

2. Research: When conducting research, you often need to review various sources. Storing links and excerpts can help you effectively organize and revisit these sources at any time.

3. Sharing Information: If you find something you think others would be interested in – a news article, a blog post, a helpful resource – you can share the saved link or excerpts.

4. Learning/Training: If you’re learning something new, storing relevant links or excerpts can provide fast access to resources like guides, tutorials, articles, etc.

5. Work Efficiency: For jobs that require a lot of online data handling and information processing, storing links and excerpts can make it easier to find and return to relevant web pages.

6. Offline Reading: Some apps or software allow you to save web pages for offline reading. This is particularly useful if you’re travelling or have limited access to the internet.

However, the specific result of storing these depends largely on the platform or software you are using. Some might save them within your bookmarks/favorites, some might allow you to categorize or tag them, some might save them to a specific location or file on your device, and others might allow you to store them on a cloud service.

I am planning to write a dedicated post discussing the features and uses of the TAVA Discovery Research Platform. The primary focus will be on highlighting how our platform effectively manages the process of online clipping, annotations, bookmarks and note-taking. All that while, it ensures a clear referencing system for source attribution and authorship.

Always remember to respect copyright laws and personal privacy. Only save or share content in accordance with its original permissions, terms of use, and any relevant regulations.
